It’s a Patriarchal World: An Analysis of the Differences in Success Based on Gender Discrimination Globally Privilege is a word that may be used in a plethora of contexts, one of the least common, however, is the privilege of education and success. Privilege can be defined as an advantage that a person or group holds. A common ideology is that education is a crucial necessity for a successful life, and it can be the deciding factor in one’s attainment of a great career. This ideology is astounding in theory, but crippling in reality. It is important to note the privilege of not only men, but to also include an intersectional approach. Class, race, region, religion, and socioeconomic status can, and in most cases will, impact the level†¦show more content†¦This in itself may cause girls to be hesitant to put forth a valiant effort in school. Progressing from elementary, through middle, and into high school, young womxn begin to form their plans for the future; Usually one that has been tainted by gender discrimination. During high school, some young womxn take on the feat of applying to colleges and universities. Womxn’s colleges are some of the lesser known institutions of postsecondary education in the Unites States. This is extremely crippling to womxn, because the same discrimination they faced in earlier educational settings, will only intensify on a college level. Carlton (2017) defends womxn’s colleges by stating: A women’s institution is a place where women can succeed, while surrounded by other driven and ambitious women†¦ where education has a greater purpose that encourages them to succeed in our patriarchal society†¦These institutions send women into the world to make a difference, promoting an atmosphere where it is expected for women to make changes, and contribute to society. (p. 1) Carlton addresses the importance of education by means surrounding oneself with people who face similar disadvantages.
